General Motors Develop Greener and Smaller Cars

The giant of the motoring industry, General Motors, who own brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac and Buick, have reveasleda line-up of new car £. Only last month General Motors recovered from 40 days of bankruptcy where the US Government invested $50 billion into the company, of which is now 60% owned by the taxpayers.

Now that General Motors have managed to get out of their bankruptcy rut, they are starting to look to the future and see how they can change. At the beginning of August they announced how they are exploring new ways to sell their cars. A trial method they are running from August 11th is selling the new cars on eBay, the online auction site.

On August 11th, General Motors invited over 100 hand picked consumers to an event they were holding in Detroit. The event was comprised of showing off a series of new cars that will soon be released by the motoring company. After they bounced back from bankruptcy, General Motors have been looking at their current car models, and they want change.

Currently most of their cars are the size of tanks and eat fuel, these used to be very popular, however, due to climate change, they are becoming less popular as drivers become more eco-friendly. To try and attract younger and greener customers, they have created a series of new models for their brands that are smaller and more fuel efficient.

One of the cars that was announced is the Chevrolet Volt which is expected to become very popular. This car is already becoming popular due to the large number of miles per gallon it can do, currently it’s due for release in 2010. Currently it’s estimated that the car can do 230 miles per gallon, which should reduce running costs greatly.

The other big announcement for new cars is the new model Cadillac. The new model Cadillac, that comes with either rear wheel or 4 wheel drive, is going to be a small sport sedan. The new model is going to be smaller than the extremely popular CTS model, unfortunately no release date was given.

During the event, a number of planned changes were announced by General Motors, all of which are expected to take effect within the next 3 years. Other plans announced included doubling the amount o f cars Buick have from 3 to 6. We’ll have to keep watching to see what new models are released first. Hopefully we’ll also see some of the models coming to the contract hire market. Currently if you are after leasing a large American car, you have to get a Chrysler lease. Another option would be to go for cheap van leasing considering they are the closest to a Chevrolet, size wise
