Britain’s Best Beaches
Millions of people visit the United Kingdom every year, and because there is a lot to do, their reasons for doing so are numerous. There are, of course, historical and cultural offerings on offer, but the beaches of the UK are something special too, and the ones listed below are the best among them…
Brighton Beach, located in Sussex on the English Channel and boasting the famed Brighton Pier, provides seaside amusements and pleasures during the day, which fade with the daylight into the evening’s stylish night life. During the daytime, you can swim or sunbathe at Brighton’s topnotch pebble beach, enjoy sailing or water sports on the ocean, or just take a stroll on the Brighton walkway and sample the cosmopolitan character of the numerous bars and cafes. Once the evening arrives, visit one or more of the bars that dot Brighton’s beach under the Victorian arches that line the seashore.
Blackpool Beach, on the Irish Sea in Lancashire, is an extensive sandy beach that’s perfect for relaxation, and the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a noted amusement park, is located right next door to provide some thrilling entertainment when you’re through relaxing. The theme park boasts more than 125 rides and shows, with the highlight being the Pepsi Max Big One, which has been rated as the UK’s best rollercoaster. You can find typical seaside fare along the beach, such as fish and chip shops, a pier, and donkey rides.
Rhossili Beach in South Wales has mysterious shipwrecks, burial cairns, magnificent cliffs, and stunning views. There is plenty to do on the 5km of sandy beach, which attracts bathers, surfers and fisherman. It is about as unspoiled a beach that you will find anywhere in the UK, and has a real charm to it. There are lots of places to eat in the nearby village of Rhossili, and from the restaurants you have great views of the beach stretching out into the distance.
You will find many hotels at all of the above destinations, so staying for a few days or longer is not problem at all. They typically cost between $50 to $150 a night, but there are some great deals to be had at certain times of the year.
